While there are several types of projection TV, including DLP and LCD projection, the original type was the CRT (cathode ray tube) based technology. Therefore, the term "projection TV" , without any qualifiers, is assumed to be the CRT type. These tend to be larger than their DLP (Digital light Processor) and LCD(Liquid Crystal Display) cousins. Each of these have their distinct , popular repair issues as well. The CRT projection TV will often have the condition described as "3d colors", "blurry colors" or "out of focus". This is a problem with the "convergence system" which lands the the three CRT beams in the proper place. When this fails, one or more colors will be out of place, causing a color shadow on the images.None of the adjustments will correct this since there are internal components that have failed. Don't worry! We can repair this "in-home" for reasonable price.
The second most common projection TV is the DLP type. It's most popular repair request is usually related to the lamp. Many of these sets have lamp status indicators on the front panel which will light or flash if there is a lamp-start problem. Often, but not always, this is just a defective lamp. See our lamp rebuild offer and "how to" guide. Better yet, have us come out and evaluate the set if you are not sure about the lamp being the problem. The third, less common type, is the LCD projection. The "wall projector" used for business and classroom presentations , usually employ an LCD matrix. Some of the home style rear projectors, were produced with a LCD "light engine" also. Some common complaints with these are ,like the DLPs, about the internal lamp not lighting.Additionally there may be problems with the picture coloration, or color blotches, or stripes .Each of the above need to be evaluated on an individual basis, since the underlying problems and repair costs vary with make and model.
